About Your Surgery

PreAdmission Testing On-Site

PhysiciansInsurance Interview — Please bring current and accurate insurance information with you. We will make a copy of your insurance card and driver’s license. You will meet with our Insurance Coordinator who will review this information with you. Due to the fact that many insurance companies and managed care plans require prior approval, we will contact your insurer to receive this approval. This process is for your benefit, and could prevent you from being billed directly for your surgery.

Nursing Interview —You will be asked to complete a history form which will be reviewed with you by a nurse. At this time, the nurse will discuss preparations for surgery, the surgical procedure, discharge plans and care at home. Please use this opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Be sure to advise the staff of any medical problems and all drugs that you are taking (including illicit drugs, over the counter drugs, and herbal remedies).

Anesthesia Interview —The Registered Nurse conducting your interview will determine if you need to be evaluated by an anesthesiologist.  Feel free to request to speak to an anesthesiologist at any time.

MDPre-Op Diagnostic Testing Lab — Routine pre-op testing (lab work) is limited to patients whose procedure or medical condition (including medications) indicate the need for such testing to be done. The anesthesiologist may request additional studies based on your medical history. Testing may be conducted in this building or a laboratory specified by your insurance plan. Laboratory studies may be accepted from any licensed accredited laboratory. (Plan approximately one hour for your pre-admission appointment. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian).

EKG’s – EKG’s are routinely performed on patients who have cardiac “risk-factors” as determined by the anesthesia department.  An EKG more than 6 months old must be repeated.

PreAdmission Testing

Telephone Interview —If you have had surgery at HCOS within 6 months, a telephone interview may be conducted.  Telephone interviews may also be scheduled for other patients on a select basis. A nurse will contact you to conduct the phone interview.  Please have insurance information available.  The nurse will review a series of questions regarding your health history and current health status. You may be required to visit the facility before your surgery to be evaluated by an anesthesiologist.  The nurse will review planning for the day of surgery and after discharge with you.  Please bring any specific questions/concerns to the nurse’s attention at this time.  We want you to be comfortable with all aspects of your surgery and post-discharge care.
